Capacitor discharge (CD) stud welding is a semi-automated process in which an operator loads small-diameter fasteners into their appropriate size chuck or collet before placing their end against a parent metal substrate. Power sources communicate with weld guns that raise slightly above surface level of substrate while sending an electric arc between both material surfaces, connecting to an automatic trigger to weld the stud instantly with controlled force for an instantaneous leak-free joint.
